About USEntitySearch
USEntitySearch is an independent website for two jobs: looking up a registered business, and checking whether a name you want is already on a state’s records before you form a company.
We are not a government agency. We aren’t affiliated with, endorsed by or acting for any Secretary of State, the District of Columbia or any other office. We aren’t a law firm, and nothing here is legal or tax advice. Searching on this site doesn’t reserve, register or approve a name. Only the state can do that.
What we try to do well
- Search real records. Where a state allows it, our server queries the state’s own search or official data at the moment you search, and every result says what was searched and when.
- Be honest about gaps. Where we can’t search a state, we say so and open the official search instead. A failed check is never shown as an available name.
- Apply each state’s own naming rules rather than a one-size exact-match test.
- Keep guidance current, with official sources for every fee and rule, and automated monitoring for changes.
How the site is paid for
We may earn a commission when someone forms a business through a formation service we link to. That never changes search results or how we describe a name, and we always show the option to file directly with the state. You don’t need to give us an email address to see results. See the affiliate disclosure.
