District of Columbia business entity search and name check
Search business records
When you search the District of Columbia here, we query the corporate registration data that DC's Department of Licensing and Consumer Protection publishes daily as open data, rather than its BOSS (Business One Stop Shop) portal, which replaced CorpOnline in August 2026. DC compares a new name against registered trade names as well as entity names, and trade names are not in our search, so check those separately. Forming an LLC costs $99, and the $300 biennial report is due by April 1.

What the District of Columbia search covers
All businesses formed in DC or registered here from elsewhere: corporations, LLCs, partnerships, nonprofits, cooperatives and statutory trusts, in every status. Trade names are kept on a separate register.
When you search District of Columbia here, keep in mind:
- Published by the District as open data and refreshed daily; the newest filings may not appear yet.
- Trade names are a separate DC register and are not included in this search.
Each record has a File Number (for example L50576). Choose “Look up an existing business”, then “Registry number”, to search by it.
How to read District of Columbia results
District of Columbia uses its own status labels. We always show the official wording; here is what the common ones mean according to the state:
| Status | What it means |
|---|---|
| Active - In Good Standing | The business has filed its biennial reports and has a registered agent. Source: dlcp.dc.gov |
| Revoked | DC revoked the registration, for example because the business went more than 60 days without a registered agent or didn't file its reports. DLCP publishes revocation lists each year. This is the most common status in DC's records. Source: dlcp.dc.gov |
| Administratively dissolved | The business still exists, but it may only wind up its affairs or apply for reinstatement (Form GN-5 for DC businesses, FN-6 for out-of-state ones). Source: code.dccouncil.gov |
A status describes the registry filing only. It isn’t evidence of a license, tax compliance or reputation, and a record with the same name as a company you know may be a different business. More on statuses.
